Apart of Erica Catherine's US State Flower Collection, the Pinecone represents the State of Maine. The pinecone is the only non-flower State floral emblem.

The Pinecone was adopted as the state flower in 1895 after it was used in the national garland of flowers at the 1893 World's Fair in Chicago. Maine is the only state who's state flower isn't actually a flower. It was chosen to represent the state because Maine is known as the pine tree state. The resident's of Maine voted on two other candidates along side the pinecone, the goldenrod, and the apple blossom. The pinecone won the popular vote and made it's way to the World's Fair. The pine tree is overly abundant in Maine, towering over streets, homes, and dominates their beautiful landscapes. Due to their abundance the lumber industry has a long tie to the state's economy since the 1600s.

Inspired by the natural and antique details that call to Erica's Old soul, she aims to bring that special spirit to all of her designs. Each drawing is created by hand using a mixture of graphite drawing with watercolor layering over the top to create the ethereal and vintage inspired work that harks back to turn of the century botanical illustration.
