Apart of Erica Catherine's US State Flower Collection, the Goldenrod Flower represents both the State of Kentucky as well as Nebraska. The yellow wildflowers are shown on top of a green color background.

The Goldenrod was adopted as the state flower of Kentucky in 1926. The goldenrod replaced bluegrass as the official state flower in 1926. They wanted the state flower to represent flora grown all over the state and with over 30 native species of goldenrod in Kentucky they certainly chose well. The Goldenrod was adopted as the state flower of Nebraska in 1895. At the time the Goldenrod was named the state flower it was referred to as "golden rod - Solidago serotina" since then it has been modified to "Goldenrod- Solidago Gigantea." These beautiful golden blooms are most often found in late summer through early fall. It is so prolific that it covers ditches, abandoned fields, and roadside fields. Since it can be so invasive that some consider it a weed. Despite it's label as a weed, this plant is technically considered a species of herb. They can be used in tea, often found in honey, and is a traditional kidney tonic.

Inspired by the natural and antique details that call to Erica's Old soul, she aims to bring that special spirit to all of her designs. Each drawing is created by hand using a mixture of graphite drawing with watercolor layering over the top to create the ethereal and vintage inspired work that harks back to turn of the century botanical illustration.
